COMPANY DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURIAL STORY
Bitgear was founded in 2007, under the auspices of Incubator of Technical Faculties Belgrade, at a time when there were almost no high-tech companies in Belgrade. At first, we exclusively provided development services, in the field of electronics and digital signal processing.
As of 2010, we started applying an innovative business model, where we develop an innovation up to a certain level, which we later license to startups in addition to product development and launch services. With this type of innovation, we have been active in the fields of telematics insurance as well as mobile telecare services. This business model brought us rapid growth (Deloitte Fast 50 2013, #2 fastest growing company in CEE). Since 2018, we invest in portfolio development of our products, which are focused on the upcoming digital wave transformations. We are one of the very few companies in Serbia, which has its own products, with an emphasis on hardware.
CONTRIBUTION TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Bitgear is a member of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Council for Science and Economics Cooperation, as well as the AgTech supercluster pilot. The goal of our engagement is to create an ecosystem, which covers innovation and academic institutions, cooperation with the economy in order to industrialize products, and secure financing through big domestic users, as springboards for creating new domestic products with export potential. Regarding goal no. 8, we tried to not just stick to IT (and related professions) but to diversify employees with mathematicians, physicists, employees specialized in biosignal, etc. This way, instead of retraining in the IT sector, employees can use and market their (non-IT) knowledge. We have invested significant effort in lobbying for incentives for innovators, and companies that create their products. As a result, several regulations and laws that make significant incentives for companies that develop their products have been passed. In the last 4 years, we have invested about EUR 1.5 million from our own funds in research and innovation. These investments are reflected in our product portfolio and IoT digitization services. Regarding goal no. 9, we believe that we have contributed to demonstrating a sustainable model for the creation of new Serbian products and their export.
