PRODUCTS/SERVICES

KONELEK’S main products are tools for the repair and production of passenger planes and jet engines. We gained the know-how and the skills needed for this type of production. KONELEK’s director Dr. Andrija Ekmedzic holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade. Further to that, he spent 8 years abroad working for the world’s largest company in the production of “Airbus” aircraft, specialising in landing gears and wings. He spent most of his time there designing the most modern airplane of today, the Airbus A350. The parts and assemblies KONELEK produces require usually machining or a combination of various high-precision production technologies. The materials we use vary greatly and include steel, aluminium, titanium, plastics, stainless steel, and special nickel alloys. Another important feature of our products is that they are made in small quantities. We sell our products in the markets of several countries in Europe, America, and Asia.

COMPANY DEVELOPMENT AND ENTREPRENEURIAL STORY

The founders of KONELEK are Aleksa and Nada Ekmedzic. In the first 27 years (the first 5 years as a craft shop) the company was engaged in the production of printed circuits for electronics and the manufacturing and design of electronic circuits. The business was started by launching the production of electrical connectors for a customer abroad. Development went well until the beginning of the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the sanctions. The war interrupted KONELEK’s plans to expand the business, and instead, the firm had to struggle to survive. KONELEK was relaunched in 2011 with a job brought by our director from the UK, and after that, the firm expanded. We have widened our scope of production through the acquisition of new machines and by introducing new technologies into the production process. That required hiring new staff. We’ve won new customers and markets since through market development. The turning points in the company’s business: introduction of tools for aircraft in 2011, contract with the first major customer in 2012, purchase of a new production hall, and relocation to our today’s location in 2015. We had many failures and we still have them today (we were unable to meet some deadlines or meet the required product quality). We eventually managed to complete most of the jobs successfully, but the failures we made had cost us time and money.

CONTRIBUTION TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

We help the sustainable development of Serbia by providing our staff with the opportunity to learn and apply the know-how needed for the high-precision and the high-tech production. We provide young people, women, and girls with career opportunities. The percentage of women at KONELEK is above the average for our industry. We raise productivity by mastering new technologies and by investing in automation in order to facilitate human work. We are involved in the dual education program, we offer young people their first job after school, and we reward excellence. Nowadays, with some of the industrial skills perishing in Serbia, we offer our staff the opportunity to learn and master some of the most important production technologies, such as CNC milling, CNC turning, electro erosion, welding, robotic welding, 3D metal printing, 3D coordinate measurement, 5-axis CNC machining, CAD computer-aided design, and CAM computer manufacturing.
